Barboek in M
Barboek is the welcoming café-restaurant on the ground floor of M Museum Leuven, the city's visual arts museum in the heart of town. The café combines a relaxed atmosphere with a carefully curated offering: from coffee with pastries and light lunches to a full midday menu. The décor is bright and modern, in keeping with the museum's architecture, with large windows looking out onto Leopold Vanderkelenplein. Barboek is a gathering spot not only for museum visitors but also for locals looking for a quiet moment away from the bustle of the city.
Accessibility at Barboek is excellent thanks to M Museum's modern architecture. The entrance to both the museum and the café is fully step-free with automatic sliding doors. The entire café is on the ground floor, with wide passageways and movable chairs that make it easy to find a comfortable spot. The adapted toilet is also on the ground floor, fitted with grab rails, a wide door, and ample manoeuvring space. Staff are helpful, and the museum has wheelchairs available for loan.
Barboek is centrally located in Leuven on Leopold Vanderkelenplein, a few minutes' walk from the Grote Markt and the Town Hall. The surrounding area is paved and level, ideal for exploring by wheelchair. Leuven railway station is ten minutes on foot via a paved route. Parking is available at nearby Parking Ladeuze or Parking Bruul, both of which have adapted spaces and a lift. On Wednesday afternoons museum admission is free, an extra reason to combine a visit to Barboek with a cultural outing.
