♿ Wheelchair accessible

La Monnaie / The Royal Mint Theatre (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie) is Belgium's main opera house with a history dating back to 1700. It is one of the oldest opera houses in Europe and home to the internationally renowned La Monnaie opera company with its own orchestra, choir and ballet company. The building itself, restored in the 19th century, combines neoclassical façades with a richly decorated interior.

Accessibility for wheelchair users is well organised, with a step-free main entrance on Place de la Monnaie and lifts that lead to the auditorium, the intermission foyer and the catering areas. Wheelchair places are at fixed positions in the auditorium — when booking, you can ask which viewpoints are available for the specific performance. Accessible toilets are present on the ground floor and the intermission foyer.

For anyone who wants to combine an opera or ballet visit with an evening out, La Monnaie is centrally located in Brussels — a few minutes' walk from the Grand Place, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert and the Brussels-Central and De Brouckère metro stops, both with lifts. Reserving an accessible table at a nearby restaurant turns the visit into a complete evening with little need to move around.

Good to know

Reservation
For opera/ballet performances, reserve a **wheelchair seat at least 2 weeks in advance** via the La Monnaie box office or the website. Wheelchair seats are limited in number and in demand. Companion ticket at a discounted rate.
Busy and quiet times
Production premieres and the festive season (Christmas, New Year) are the busiest and most expensive. Weekday matinees in the off-season offer a quieter experience and better ticket availability.
Things to note
The main entrance is step-free via the Place de la Monnaie. Lift to the auditorium and intermission foyer. Wheelchair places are at fixed positions — not all viewing angles are available. Accessible toilet on the ground floor and first floor.
Visit tip
Combine with dinner at a nearby restaurant — the [Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert](/en/locaties/koninklijke-sint-hubertusgalerijen-brussel/) are just a few minutes away and have step-free dining venues. Brussels-Central and De Brouckère metro stations both have lifts.
