Donkmeer is a picturesque lake near Berlare in the province of East Flanders, a short distance from Dendermonde. The lake is a remnant of a former arm of the River Scheldt and together with the surrounding meadows and marshes forms a valuable nature area. A 5.5-kilometre paved path runs all the way around the lake, offering beautiful views of the water, reed beds and bird-rich shores along the way.

The circular path is fully paved with asphalt and flat, making it excellently suited for wheelchair users and mobility scooters. The path is wide enough to travel comfortably, even when passing other walkers and cyclists. Car parks with PMR spaces are available at the visitor centre and at the recreation area on the south side of the lake. Toilet facilities are present but not all are fully adapted -- it is advisable to check in advance.

Donkmeer is accessible year-round and particularly pleasant in spring and summer. In winter it is a good spot for watching waterfowl. Along the lake there are several cafes and restaurants where you can take a break. The lake is easily reached via the N406 from Dendermonde or via the E17 from Ghent. Donkmeer is an ideal destination for a relaxed circular walk in a beautiful natural setting.
