Handikayak Meuse Liège
Handikayak is an initiative on the Meuse in Liège that opens up kayaking to people with a physical or sensory disability. From a club pontoon on the quay, the watersport programme sets out with stable tandem kayaks, sit-on-top canoes with back support, and adapted paddles. For boarding, staff use a ceiling hoist or an inclined slide with harnesses. An experienced team of instructors and volunteers oversees safety and gives a short introduction before each trip.
Reception takes place in a container pavilion on the quay, with a step-free entrance, a lowered counter and an adapted toilet. A changing room with folding bench, grab bars and a shower seat is available. The route from the changing room to the pontoon runs via a slope and a floating walkway; a companion is recommended and staff are on hand to help if needed. The hoist can lift wheelchair users directly into the kayak.
On the quay side, reserved parking spaces are available on paved ground. Liège-Guillemins station is a short distance away and can be reached directly by bus; low-floor buses stop about a hundred metres from the site. Book the activity in advance so the adapted kayak and hoist can be ready for you.
