♿ Wheelchair accessible

The Royal Military Museum, part of the War Heritage Institute since 2017, is one of the largest military museums in Europe, housed in the monumental Triumphal Arch halls of the Cinquantenaire Park. The collection includes uniforms, weapons, vehicles, aircraft and documents that document Belgian military history from the Middle Ages to the present. Highlights include the impressive aviation hall with historic aircraft and the tanks-and-vehicles collection.

Accessibility for wheelchair users is good in the main halls: the main entrance is step-free and lifts provide access to most exhibition spaces. The aviation hall — with its collection of First and Second World War aircraft — is fully accessible on the ground floor. An accessible toilet is available near the entrance hall, and accessible parking spaces are provided right at the main entrance.

Not all sub-floors or mezzanines are accessible, however: for some sections you are best off asking at the desk for an accessible route map to follow the adapted route through the collection. The surrounding Cinquantenaire Park is flat and has wide paved paths — an excellent visit-combination with a walk or picnic under the Triumphal Arch. Schuman metro stop (with lift) or Merode (with lift) bring you within a few minutes of the entrance.
