Manneken Pis Brussels
The Manneken Pis is one of the most photographed statuettes in the world and an unmistakable symbol of Brussels. The 55 cm tall bronze boy was installed in 1619 and has an extensive wardrobe of more than 1,000 costumes that are worn on holidays or special occasions. You can admire his costumes in the GardeRobe MannekenPis museum nearby on Rue du Chêne.
The accessibility of the statuette itself is good: it stands on the corner of two small streets and is fully visible from the pavement without needing to go inside or cross any threshold. The historic surroundings do have cobblestones, however — anyone with a finely tuned wheelchair is best advised to plan the route from the Bourse side, where Rue de l'Étuve is most even. Accessible toilets are available in nearby cafés and hotel lobbies, especially towards Place de la Bourse.
The GardeRobe MannekenPis museum, a few minutes' walk away, is fully accessible with a lift to all floors and an accessible toilet. For anyone who wants to know why Manneken Pis is such an iconic statue — the history, the costume tradition, the mythology — this museum is a short but very accessible addition to a visit to the statuette itself.
