Musée de l'Armée Brussels
The Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and of Military History, better known as the Musée de l'Armée, is located in the majestic buildings of Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels. The collection is impressive: from medieval weapons and suits of armour to WWI equipment, WWII tanks and a unique aviation section with dozens of historic aircraft hanging in a vast hall. The museum is managed by the Federal Science Policy and is one of the largest military museums in Europe.
The museum's accessibility is partial but has been significantly improved in recent renovations. The main entrance at Cinquantenaire Park is step-free, and the large central hall with the aviation section is fully accessible. A spacious lift connects the various levels, so the historic sections on WWI and WWII are also reachable for wheelchair users. A few older galleries on the top floor have not yet been fully adapted. Adapted toilets are present on the ground floor and on a mezzanine level.
The museum has its own car park with several accessible spaces. The Merode metro stop, 100 metres away, is fully wheelchair accessible. Cinquantenaire Park itself is largely paved and extensive, inviting a pleasant wheelchair stroll after a museum visit. A combination with the nearby Autoworld Museum (fully accessible) and the Art & History Museum (partially accessible) turns the Cinquantenaire complex into an ideal destination for a full museum day.
