Wilhelminaplas Provincial Recreation Area Tervuren
The recreation area around the Wilhelminaplas in Tervuren is a quiet green spot on the edge of the Sonian Forest. The pond, originally created as a fish pond, forms the central feature of the area and is surrounded by open meadows and rows of old trees. It is a beloved spot for walkers, anglers and families looking for a relaxed afternoon in nature. Nearby lie the Park of Tervuren and the Africa Museum, making the area an ideal addition to a day out in the region.
Accessibility is partial. The main path around the pond is largely built with semi-paved dolomite and is easy to navigate in dry weather for a wheelchair or buggy. In a few places there are short bumpy sections or a slight slope. The side paths through the woods are narrower and unpaved. At the main entrance there is a service building with an accessible toilet. Benches and picnic tables are placed all along the walking route, especially by the pond where you can quietly watch the birds.
The area is free of charge and open all year round. The car park is right at the main entrance with several accessible spaces. Tervuren is reached via the Brussels ring and the N3 from Brussels. The calm of the Wilhelminaplas makes a fine contrast with the busier Africa Museum, a ten-minute walk away through the park.
