Hofstade Domain
Hofstade Domain is an extensive 160-hectare recreation area in Hofstade, a sub-municipality of Zemst in Flemish Brabant. Managed by Sport Vlaanderen, the domain features a 650-metre long beach with a supervised swimming zone, a large playground with a separate toddler area, sports fields and a beautiful protected natural landscape. Around the ponds and through the woods, numerous walking paths have been laid out. It is an ideal destination for an active day out in nature.
Wheelchair accessibility is good and is being actively improved. Four new walking paths have been laid on the beach, allowing wheelchair users and families with pushchairs to move more smoothly across the beach. In summer, visitors can use WaterWheels free of charge, a type of all-terrain wheelchair that allows you to travel across the beach and float on the water. The walking paths around the ponds and through the forest are largely paved and well maintained.
The domain has sufficient parking with disabled parking spaces. Adapted sanitary facilities are available. Several catering establishments on the domain are accessible for wheelchair users. With its combination of beach, nature, sport and the innovative WaterWheels, Hofstade Domain is a progressive destination actively committed to inclusive recreation for everyone.
Good to know
- Reservation
- The domain is freely accessible; for the WaterWheels all-terrain wheelchair, book ahead through Sport Vlaanderen as the number of units is limited.
- Busy and quiet times
- On warm summer days and at weekends, the beach and swimming lake get very busy; a weekday or the morning offers much more room.
- Things to note
- The four beach paths are laid out for wheelchair users, but off the paths the sand is loose; stick to the paved walking paths around the ponds.
- Visit tip
- In summer, use the free WaterWheels to actually move across the beach and into the water; adapted sanitary facilities can be found near the main building.
