Grote Markt Sint-Niklaas
The Grote Markt of Sint-Niklaas, at more than three hectares, is the largest market square in Belgium. The impressive square is surrounded by historic buildings, including the town hall, the Sint-Niklaaskerk, and various monumental buildings. Every Thursday, the weekly market takes place here. The square is also the setting for numerous events, including the famous Vredefeesten in summer.
The market square is largely flat and paved, making it easy to navigate for wheelchair users. The surface consists of flat cobblestones that are reasonably comfortable. The crossings to surrounding streets have lowered kerbs. Around the square are various hospitality venues with accessible terraces. A public adapted toilet is available in the nearby town hall, though availability is limited to opening hours.
Accessible parking spaces are available on and around the square. Sint-Niklaas station is about ten minutes' walk away. The Grote Markt is the ideal starting point for exploring the city centre, with shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions within easy reach.
