♿ Wheelchair accessible

In Rochefort, in the heart of the Ardennes, you can hire a Joëlette through the local Maison du Tourisme Val de Lesse. A Joëlette is a single-wheeled all-terrain chair for people who cannot walk independently. The chair is pushed and pulled by two or more companions and can tackle even rough forest tracks, stairs or narrow paths that are not feasible for a wheelchair. In this way the Joëlette opens up an entire range of Ardennes forests, caves and riverbanks that would otherwise remain inaccessible.

The pick-up point is in the Val de Lesse welcome building, on the ground floor and step-free. An adapted toilet and lowered counter are in place. The Joëlettes are collected by reservation; each one is individually adjusted to the person, their weight and their height. On request, staff can refer you to volunteer associations who offer themselves as pushers or pullers, for example for a trip into the Domaine des Grottes de Han or along the Lesse.

In front of the building there is a paved car park with reserved spaces. The walking paths on which the Joëlette is used are deliberately unpaved: the whole appeal of this solution is that it opens up nature areas where classic accessibility infrastructure is missing. For transporting the chair, a van or trailer is handy, but folding it down for smaller cars is also possible.
