The Kruispoort is one of the four preserved medieval city gates of Bruges and marks the eastern entrance to the historic old town. The monumental 14th-century structure was reinforced in the 17th century and is the only gate that has kept its closed medieval silhouette. The Kruispoort is a popular subject for photography and serves as the starting point of the accessible walking route along the eastern ramparts past the four well-known windmills.

The exterior of the Kruispoort can be reached from the adjacent paved pavements. The building itself is not open to the public, so the interior of the gate remains inaccessible. The passageway under the arch is paved with historic cobblestones, which makes it uncomfortable for wheelchair users; the flat strip on the south side is a better option. The nearby walking path around the ramparts is largely paved.

There are no adapted sanitary facilities in the immediate vicinity; public toilets are available at the Katelijne car park or at the nearby Carmersmolen site. Reserved parking spaces are located along the Gentpoort and the Kruispoortvest. The rampart walk to the north is flat and paved and makes a pleasant wheelchair route with views of the restored Sint-Jan-Huis and Koeleweimolen windmills.
