Belfry of Diksmuide
The Belfry of Diksmuide is on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is an integral part of the city hall on the Grote Markt. Like the rest of Diksmuide, the belfry was rebuilt in the original style after the complete destruction during the First World War. The tower and its accompanying city hall form a harmonious neo-Gothic ensemble today that tells the story of the Westhoek.
The surroundings of the belfry are excellently accessible: the Grote Markt is level, newly laid with smooth paving and generous walking paths. The entrance to the city hall is reachable via a ramp and there is public access to the reception hall on the ground floor. The tower itself is climbed via stairs during special guided tours, which is not wheelchair accessible. Outside the guided tours the belfry can only be admired from the outside.
Adapted toilets are available in the city hall and in the nearby tourist information office. Disabled parking spaces are located at the Kleine Dijk and in the Pluimstraat car park, both a few hundred metres away. The Grote Markt is a pleasant base for visits to the Yser Tower and the War Museum, which also have adapted facilities.
