Art & History Museum
The Art & History Museum, also known as the Cinquantenaire Museum, is one of Belgium's largest museums and belongs to the Royal Museums of Art and History. Housed in the southern wing of Cinquantenaire Park, it presents an impressive collection spanning the entire history of human civilisation. From Egyptian sarcophagi and Greek vases to Roman mosaics, from medieval liturgical treasures to Art Nouveau sculptures, the collection comprises hundreds of thousands of objects spread across countless galleries.
The museum is largely wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair users are asked to use the entrance to the right of the main staircase and ring the bell, after which a guard will come to assist. Once inside, most galleries are accessible. Lifts are available on request for moving between floors. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the museum. Adapted restrooms are provided. Some rooms, including the Asian continent galleries and the Hoffmann collection, are unfortunately not accessible for wheelchairs.
The museum is situated in Cinquantenaire Park, reachable via the metro stations Merode and Schuman (lines 1 and 5), both of which have lifts. Parking, including accessible bays, is available in the area. After visiting the museum, Cinquantenaire Park itself invites a pleasant stroll past the triumphal arch and the pond.
