L'Esplanade is the largest shopping centre in Walloon Brabant and lies in the heart of the university town of Louvain-la-Neuve. It opened in 2005 and is home to more than 130 shops, restaurants and a cinema. The centre forms an integral part of a purely pedestrian-friendly town centre, which makes for a very pleasant visit.

The shopping centre is fully wheelchair-accessible. All floors are reachable via large lifts and escalators, and the corridors are wide and step-free. Adapted toilets are available on every floor. Wheelchairs and prams can be borrowed free of charge at the reception desk. High-contrast markings and tactile guidelines also help visitors with a visual impairment.

L'Esplanade is exceptionally well served by public transport: Louvain-la-Neuve-Université railway station sits right under the shopping centre and is equipped with lifts to every level. Spacious reduced-mobility spaces with a direct lift connection are available in the underground car park. The entire town centre is traffic-free and low-traffic, which also makes a stroll around the Lac de Louvain-la-Neuve attractive.
