La Cambre - École nationale supérieure des Arts visuels Brussels
La Cambre, officially the École nationale supérieure des Arts visuels, is one of the most prestigious art schools in Belgium. The school is housed in the buildings of the former Cistercian abbey of La Cambre, founded in the 13th century on the edge of the Sonian Forest in Ixelles. The site combines medieval abbey buildings with modern additions now serving as studios, exhibition spaces and classrooms. La Cambre regularly opens its doors to the public during graduation shows, annual exhibitions and special events.
Accessibility is partial. The main entrance at the abbey gate has been adapted with a wheelchair ramp, and the inner courtyard is reachable via paved paths. Several exhibition spaces on the ground floor of the modern wing are fully accessible, and an adapted toilet is available. The historic abbey wing is only partially accessible: most public areas can be reached, but some stairs and narrow corridors may pose obstacles. During exhibitions the visitor route is adapted to be as accessible as possible.
The streets around La Cambre are mostly paved, but direct access from the road includes some cobblestones. Accessible parking spaces are available on the nearby Avenue Louise and Fernand Cocq Square. La Cambre borders the Sonian Forest, which has partially accessible walking paths, and is reachable by trams 7 and 8 (Cambre-Étoile stop).
