Café Belga
Café Belga is an iconic café housed in the art deco Flagey building on the square of the same name in Ixelles, Brussels. The café draws a diverse and cosmopolitan crowd: students and artists, families and neighbourhood regulars who enjoy the expansive terrace. The interior retains the original art deco details of the former Belgian radio building, with high ceilings, large windows, and a warm wooden bar. The offer ranges from morning coffee and brunch to craft beers and late-night cocktails.
The ground-floor entrance of Café Belga is wide and step-free, giving direct access to the large indoor area. The terrace on the Flagey square is also flat and accessible. However, the toilets are located one floor down via a staircase with no lift, making them inaccessible for wheelchair users — a well-known limitation of the historic building. Staff are friendly and happy to help find a comfortable spot, both inside and out.
Café Belga is situated on the Flagey square in Ixelles, a lively square surrounded by a pond and trees. It is well served by trams 81 and 82, which stop right at the door. The surrounding pavement is paved and level. Parking for people with a disabled badge is available at reserved spaces around the square. The neighbourhood also offers access to the Tenbosch Park and the Etterbeek Municipal Swimming Pool, both within a short walk.
