Place Flagey Ixelles

Place Flagey is one of the most distinctive squares in Brussels, sitting in the heart of the municipality of Ixelles on the shore of the Ixelles Ponds. It is dominated by the iconic building of the former National Institute of Broadcasting, a masterpiece of 1930s modernism nicknamed "the paquebot" for its silhouette inspired by an ocean liner. Today the building functions as the Flagey cultural centre, with concert halls, a film venue and a bistro. The square itself hosts a lively weekly market, and numerous hospitality venues create a convivial atmosphere late into the evening.

Accessibility is good. The square itself is fully level and paved, with wide pavements and a central open area that is comfortable to navigate. The Flagey cultural centre is fully step-free; the auditoriums are reachable via a lift and there are reserved spaces for wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are available within the building, freely accessible during opening hours. The crossings around the square have lowered kerbs.

Parking in the area is difficult; preferably use the public car park beneath the square itself, with a lift and accessible spaces. The square is also well served by bus and tram, with stops adapted for blind and wheelchair users. Combine a visit to a concert or film with a terrace break or a walk along the neighbouring Ixelles Ponds.
