Musee L - University Museum Louvain-la-Neuve
The Musee L is the university museum of UCLouvain, housed in the iconic former Science Library building on the Place des Sciences in Louvain-la-Neuve. The building, designed by architect Andre Jacqmain in the 1970s, is a remarkable example of brutalist architecture. The museum holds a multidisciplinary collection encompassing art, science, technology and human civilisations, with more than 30,000 objects from prehistory to contemporary art.
Accessibility at the Musee L is excellent. The museum has a lift serving all floors, wide corridors and step-free passages throughout. Designated accessible parking spaces are available nearby and adapted toilet facilities are provided on multiple floors. The exhibition spaces are spaciously designed and easily navigable by wheelchair. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the reception desk. Staff are trained to assist visitors with disabilities.
The Musee L is located in the car-free centre of Louvain-la-Neuve, a unique university town designed entirely for pedestrians. The museum can be reached via the town's underground car parks. A visit can be combined with a stroll through the lively student town, a visit to the Herge Museum (dedicated to the creator of Tintin) or a trip to the Bois de Lauzelle. The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and educational activities.
