Notre-Dame de Beauraing
The pilgrimage site of Notre-Dame de Beauraing is one of the most important Marian sites in Belgium. The centre refers to the apparitions of the Virgin to five children in 1932 and 1933, and has since grown into an extensive domain with an underground basilica, a hawthorn bush at the site of the apparitions, processional spaces and a welcome centre for pilgrims from home and abroad.
The infrastructure has been renewed at various stages with attention to pilgrims with reduced mobility. The underground basilica is accessible via a lift and ramps, with adapted seating for wheelchair users. The outdoor area around the hawthorn bush and the Calvary Square are paved and flat. Adapted toilets are provided in the welcome building, as is a reception desk where pilgrims with reduced mobility can request assistance.
The spacious car park has multiple PMR spaces a short distance from the main entrance. During major pilgrimages, additional support is organised for pilgrims in wheelchairs or with rolling walkers. Beauraing lies in the southern Namur province, close to the French border and an hour's drive from Dinant.
