Floreffe Abbey is a former Norbertine abbey founded in 1121 on a hill overlooking the Sambre river, near Namur. The imposing complex includes an 18th-century abbey church, a monumental mill-brewery (moulin-brasserie) and extensive gardens offering a breathtaking view over the Sambre valley. The abbey is one of the best-preserved monastic complexes in Belgium and exudes centuries of history.

Accessibility at Floreffe Abbey is good. The main buildings, including the abbey church and the mill-brewery, are reachable via paved paths. Designated accessible parking spaces are available near the entrance and adapted toilet facilities are provided. The abbey church has a step-free entrance. The gardens and the brewery terrace are also accessible to wheelchair users, although some gravel paths may be more challenging in wet weather.

The abbey is located just 10 kilometres south-west of Namur and is easily reached via the E42. In the historic mill-brewery, you can enjoy the famous Floreffe beer and regional dishes. The site regularly hosts artisan markets, concerts and cultural events. A visit can be combined with a trip to the Citadel of Namur or a walk along the Sambre river.

Reservation
Individual visits to the abbey church and the mill-brewery are possible without a reservation; for guided tours, book in advance via the website.
Busy and quiet times
Weekend afternoons and events at the mill-brewery are busiest; weekday mornings are quieter and give more space on the paths.
Things to note
Some garden paths are gravel-covered and tricky to roll over in the rain; the panorama terrace has a slight slope that can be tiring when self-propelling.
Visit tip
Plan your visit around lunch at the mill-brewery, as it has a level entrance and serves Floreffe beer on site.
