The Permeke Library is the main library of Antwerp and at the same time a lively neighbourhood centre in the station district. The building, designed by architect Piet Hein Eek in a former Permeke garage, combines an impressive collection of books, films, and music with a café, reading room, and spacious study spaces. Lectures, exhibitions, and workshops are held regularly.

Permeke is exemplary in accessibility. The entrance hall on the ground floor is level and equipped with automatic doors. Two spacious passenger lifts connect all levels. The corridors and table arrangements are deliberately kept wide for wheelchair users and people with a rollator. Adapted toilets are located on multiple floors. At the reception you can borrow supportive tools such as reading loupes or adapted computers if desired.

The library is within walking distance of Antwerp Central Station and the shopping streets of the Meir. Disabled parking spaces are available at the De Coninckplein and in the Franklin Rooseveltplein car park. Registering is free for young people and a favourable rate applies for persons with a European Disability Card.
