RAVeL de l'Ourthe
The RAVeL de l'Ourthe is one of Belgium's finest accessible long-distance paths, following the course of the Ourthe river between Angleur and Esneux in the province of Liege. Built on a former railway line, this 12-kilometre route offers a perfectly flat, paved surface of asphalt and concrete -- an ideal condition for wheelchair users, handbikers, and visitors with limited mobility. The zero-slope gradient means the entire route can be enjoyed without encountering any significant inclines.
The path meanders through the beautiful Ourthe valley, passing beneath wooded hillsides and alongside the gently flowing river. Multiple starting points and access ramps allow visitors to join or leave the route at various locations, so it is not necessary to complete the full 12 kilometres. The charming villages of Tilff and Esneux along the way offer places to rest, with cafes and benches at regular intervals. Adapted toilet facilities are available in these villages, and designated parking areas with PMR spaces can be found at several access points along the route.
The RAVeL de l'Ourthe is a year-round destination, though spring and early autumn are particularly pleasant when the valley is lush and the riverside paths are at their quietest. The flat terrain and excellent surface make this route one of the most wheelchair-friendly long walks in Wallonia. Whether you choose a short out-and-back section or tackle the full distance, the RAVeL de l'Ourthe provides a serene and scenic experience through one of the Liege province's loveliest river valleys.
