St. Catherine's Church in Mechelen sits on the edge of the Great Beguinage and is one of the lesser-known but particularly fine Gothic churches of the city. The building took its present shape mainly during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and preserves valuable Baroque altarpieces, confessionals and tomb monuments. During organ concerts and on heritage days the church forms an atmospheric backdrop for culture lovers.

The main entrance has a slight step that may be an obstacle for some wheelchair users, but a portable threshold ramp is available through the rectory or the beguinage desk. Once inside, the central nave is flat and tiled with good paving. The side chapels are slightly raised in places. The church offers ample manoeuvring space between the pews and a clear view of the most important works of art. Accessible toilets can be found in the nearby beguinage area and at Hof van Busleyden.

Accessible parking spaces are located in the underground Begijnenstraat car park and at Veemarkt. Mechelen station is a quiet roll away. Combine your visit with the Great Beguinage, Hof van Busleyden or St. Rumbold's Cathedral for a rich heritage walk through the accessible historic centre of Mechelen.
