St. Peter's Church stands at the heart of Leuven, directly opposite the famous town hall on the Grote Markt. This late Gothic place of worship from the fifteenth century is a prime example of Brabant Gothic and preserves world-famous works of art such as the Last Supper and the Martyrdom of Saint Erasmus by Dirk Bouts. A permanent museum display, run by M Leuven, makes it possible to view the works up close in their original context.

The main entrance on the Grote Markt has a step-free entry via an adapted ramp on the side. The church floor consists of large, flat bluestone tiles that are easy to roll over, although there may be slight unevenness here and there. The museum route, with its display cases and information panels, is largely designed at wheelchair height. The accessibility of the sacrament tabernacle and some side chapels is more limited due to raised steps. An accessible toilet is available within walking distance at M Leuven or on the Grote Markt.

Accessible parking spaces are located at Vismarkt, Hooverplein and in the underground Grote Markt car park. Leuven station is a ten-minute roll away. A combined visit with Leuven Town Hall, M Leuven or the University Library forms a rich historic tour through the accessible city centre.

Good to know

Reservation
For an individual visit, a ticket at the desk or online via M Leuven is enough. Guided tours covering the Bouts masterpieces do require advance booking.
Busy and quiet times
Busy on Saturdays and during events on the Grote Markt. The quietest times are weekdays shortly after opening and the late afternoon outside school holidays.
Things to note
The church floor is largely level, but several side chapels and the sacrament tabernacle have raised steps. The Grote Markt outside has historic cobbles that cause a bumpy ride.
Visit tip
Combine with M Leuven and the Town Hall on the same square; the most accessible route runs flattest along the Tiensestraat side, and the underground Grote Markt car park has accessible bays close to the lift.
