Z33 Hasselt
Z33 is the contemporary art and design centre of Hasselt, housed on the historic site of the former beguinage. In 2020 a new pavilion opened, designed by the Italian architect Francesca Torzo: a striking building with a characteristic brick facade in carefully chosen colour tones that seamlessly blends into its historic context. Z33 stages several exhibitions a year on contemporary art, design, architecture and fashion, often with a distinctly social or experimental angle.
The new building was designed with universal accessibility as a starting point. The main entrance is barrier-free, and all exhibition spaces are reachable via wide corridors and a spacious lift. The exhibitions are consistently curated with attention to wheelchair-friendly viewing heights and movement space. Adapted toilets are available on every floor. The adjoining beguinage with its historic facades is also largely accessible, although it contains minor irregularities in the paving.
Z33 is located in the centre of Hasselt, a short walk from the Grote Markt. Reserved PRM parking spaces are nearby and in the underground Dusartplein car park, which has a lift. The museum combines excellently with a cultural day in Hasselt, which could also include the nearby Jenever Museum and Het Stadsmus, both with wide accessibility.
