Brasserie De Zwaan in Westerlo is a welcoming village brasserie on the market square, just a few metres from the castle estate. The brasserie is housed in a renovated 19th-century town house with a spacious dining room, an atmospheric bar and an adjoining terrace that, in the summer season, spills out onto part of the market square. The menu focuses on classic Belgian dishes with a Kempen twist: rabbit with prunes, eel in green sauce, beef stew with chips and vol-au-vent.

During the renovation, specific attention was paid to accessibility. The main entrance is step-free thanks to a sloping ramp. Once inside you are in a spacious dining room with plenty of room to manoeuvre and ample distance between the tables for wheelchair users. An accessible toilet is on the ground floor, right next to the bar. The terrace on the market square can be reached via a level transition.

The brasserie has a few of its own parking spaces at the rear, while on the market square itself you will find three disabled spaces a few metres from the entrance. The market square has recently been redesigned with level cobbled surfaces. The serving staff are trained in accessibility and are happy to help with menus or to move chairs to make space.

Brasserie De Zwaan is an ideal lunch or dinner stop during a visit to the Westerlo Castle or the Cultural Centre De Zoerla Westerlo. The price range is mid-range and the atmosphere is welcoming for both a quick midday lunch and a relaxed evening meal. Booking is recommended at weekends and on summer evenings.
