Brasserie Appelmans Centrum
Brasserie Appelmans Centrum is a cosy city brasserie a few steps from the Cathedral of Our Lady. The interior breathes Art Nouveau with elegant metalwork, wooden panelling and an absinthe bar of its own in the cellar. The menu is a tribute to Belgian cuisine: rabbit stew with prunes, shrimp croquettes, vol-au-vent and an extensive selection of regional beers take centre stage.
The brasserie is fully accessible on the ground floor. The main entrance has a very slight threshold and wide double doors that remain open by default during service hours. Tables are generously spaced and staff are happy to help find a spot with enough swivelling room. The adapted toilet on the ground floor has grab rails on both sides and a low washbasin. The absinthe bar in the basement is only reachable via stairs, but the full menu is also served on the ground floor.
The restaurant lies in a pedestrian zone with smooth paving stones around the cathedral. The Grote Markt and Groenplaats car parks are both within 200 metres and have lifts and adapted spaces. Trams 3, 5 and 9 stop at Groenplaats. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially at weekends and during events in the city centre.
