Cultural Centre De Zoerla Westerlo
Cultural Centre De Zoerla in Westerlo is a modern cultural venue that acts as the cultural hub of the municipality. The programme covers theatre, children's productions, comedy, classical and world music concerts, and local art exhibitions in the renovated foyer. The centre attracts a broad audience from Westerlo and the wider Kempen area, and offers a varied programme for all ages.
De Zoerla was built fairly recently and is fully step-free by design. The main entrance has automatic sliding doors, and the entrance hall and foyer have plenty of room for wheelchair users to manoeuvre. The main theatre hall has six dedicated places for wheelchair users, spread across different rows so that you can choose between a more or less central seat. The stage can be reached by a lift for performing wheelchair artists.
Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor near the hall and in the foyer. The foyer also functions as a meeting place before and after performances and has a level bar with part of the counter at an adapted height. The centre also offers acoustic induction loops and, on request, performances with audio description or sign language interpretation. The car park beside the centre has four disabled spaces, all a few metres from the main entrance.
The cultural centre lies centrally in Westerlo, within walking distance of the Markt and the castle estate. Before and after a performance you can easily drop in for a drink at one of the accessible cafes on the central square. Combining it with a visit to Westerlo Castle or the nature reserves nearby makes Westerlo an attractive day out for lovers of culture and nature.
