Den Bietekwiet is a typical Flemish brasserie on the Grote Markt of Aalst, named after the symbol of the Aalst carnival. The menu features hearty Belgian classics such as beef stew with fries, vol-au-vent, mussels in season and homemade croque-monsieur. The beer list includes local specialties such as the Aalsterse Schuppe Boer and many West Flemish Trappist beers. The terrace on the Grote Markt is one of the liveliest spots in the city.

The entrance has a small threshold that can be crossed with assistance; in summer, the terrace is flat and accessible from the pavement. The main dining room on the ground floor has sufficient space between tables. The toilet is partially adapted — there is a wider cubicle with a grab bar, but no full disabled equipment. For a fully adapted toilet you can use the nearby station or town hall.

The Grote Markt has cobblestones around the terrace, but access from Parking Hopmarkt is mostly via flat paved paths. Disabled parking is available in both central car parks. Aalst station is fifteen minutes away by wheelchair. Combine your lunch with a visit to the nearby Belfry, the Town Hall or a stroll through the city park.
