Brasserie 't Potjesvlees Ghent
Brasserie 't Potjesvlees is a traditional Flemish brasserie in the historic centre of Ghent, in a characteristic stepped-gable building. As the name suggests, the dish potjesvlees - a cold jellied meat preparation from West Flanders - is a speciality of the house, alongside Ghent waterzooi, stew with fries, and mussels in season. The interior with wooden wainscoting and old mirrors breathes an authentic atmosphere.
The entrance has one small raised threshold, typical of a historic building - the staff will happily place a portable ramp on request. The dining room on the ground floor has a charming but compact layout; when booking, a table with extra space can be reserved. The adapted toilet is functional but rather small, which is typical of Ghent's old city centre. A second floor is only reachable by stairs.
The brasserie is located in the low-traffic city centre; the neighbouring streets are mostly paved with Ghent cobblestones, which can be uneven in places. The underground Kouter Car Park two hundred metres away has reserved spaces and a lift. From Gent-Sint-Pieters tram 1 will take you to the centre, within walking distance of the brasserie.
