Bistro Aan de Kreek in Eeklo is a welcoming Meetjesland bistro that has made a speciality of regional dishes and seasonal produce. The kitchen works closely with local farmers and grows some of its own herbs and vegetables in an adjoining garden. Classic Flemish dishes such as waterzooi, eel in green sauce and beef stew are given a contemporary twist, while the fish dishes nod to the nearby Belgian coast.

The bistro was refurbished in 2022 with explicit attention to accessibility. The main entrance is step-free and fitted with a handrail. The spacious dining room on the ground floor has tables that stand far enough apart for wheelchair users. An accessible toilet is located next to the dining room and is fitted with grab rails and a turning circle for power wheelchairs. The terrace at the rear can be reached through a step-free sliding door and has a level wooden floor.

The bistro has its own car park with two reserved disabled spaces a few metres from the entrance. The surroundings are quiet and excellently wheelchair-friendly, with level pavements to the centre of Eeklo a few minutes away on foot or by wheelchair. The Markt and the Heritage Museum Eeklo are ten minutes away by wheelchair.

Bistro Aan de Kreek serves lunch and dinner daily, except on Mondays and Tuesdays. The staff are friendly and attentive, and are happy to serve you in French, English or German for those coming from further afield. The price range is mid-range and the wine list is well put together with attention to small Belgian wine growers. Booking is recommended at weekends.
