♿ Wheelchair accessible

Blaarmeersen is Ghent's most popular sports and recreation park, situated on the edge of the city along the Watersportbaan rowing course. This expansive domain features a large swimming beach with grass meadow, various sports fields, playgrounds, a campsite and kilometres of walking and cycling paths. In summer it is a favourite spot for swimming, sunbathing and picnicking, while year-round it is ideal for walks and outdoor sports activities.

Wheelchair accessibility has been well developed. The beach zone with its grass meadow is accessible via a fixed path. The swimming zone is accessible for disabled visitors via a wooden walkway from the walking dyke, and the beach area features a wooden walkway with grab bars and support rails. The playgrounds include wheelchair-accessible play elements, including an accessible carousel. The campsite has wheelchair-accessible toilets.

While the vast majority of the domain is well accessible, some unpaved paths may be less suitable for wheelchairs in wet weather. The paved main paths, however, offer an excellent route through the entire park. Blaarmeersen is a wonderful place where young and old, with or without mobility limitations, can enjoy sports, nature and recreation in a green, city-edge setting.
