Forests of the Flemish Valley Oostkamp
The Forests of the Flemish Valley in Oostkamp form a continuous wooded area south of Bruges, with old beech avenues, coppice woodland and small fens. The area is part of the network of state forests in West Flanders and has been systematically enriched over recent decades with native planting and biodiversity measures. Especially in spring, when bluebells bloom beneath the beech canopy, it is a special place to spend time.
A large part of the forest has been made accessible to wheelchair users. Three marked routes start from the central car park, two of which run entirely on paved or firm semi-paved surface and are suitable for manual and electric wheelchairs. Several rest benches and paved resting spots are provided along these routes. At the central junction an information panel gives an overview of the accessible routes and their levels of difficulty.
The central car park on Kampveldstraat has two reserved accessible parking spaces. An adapted outdoor toilet is partially available (not permanently heated in winter). The area is reachable by public transport via De Lijn bus 74 from Bruges. A visit to the Forests of the Flemish Valley combines well with a trip to the nearby Oostkamp castle estate or with an outing to the historic centre of Bruges.
