Cactusfestival Bruges
Cactusfestival is an intimate small-scale festival in Bruges' Minnewaterpark, held annually in July since 1986. With 30,000 visitors spread over 3 days, the festival is significantly smaller than Pukkelpop or Rock Werchter — which is both its strength and its limitation for wheelchair users.
The strength: small-scale = easier to navigate, less crowd pressure, and most visitors behave more calmly. The festival grounds in Bruges' Minnewaterpark have fully paved paths around the main stage, and adapted sanitary facilities are conveniently reachable just a few metres from the stage. The park is naturally step-free — the adapted main roads are maintained by the city.
The limitation: Cactusfestival has no dedicated accessibility platform like the larger festivals. The adapted zone is organised per edition in consultation with accessibility applicants. Email the festival 1 month in advance with your disability attestation to confirm the specific arrangement for your visit. The festival responds personally — an advantage of the small-scale setup.
The wristband system works more simply: on arrival you check in at the info desk where you receive the accessibility wristband and the companion wristband. Adapted mobile toilets stand right next to the stage.
For those who like an intimate festival experience and aren't waiting for the large scale of a Pukkelpop, Cactusfestival is a solid alternative choice. Combine with a Bruges city trip and stay at an adapted B&B such as B&B De Corenbloem Bruges or B&B Minnewater Bruges for an atmospheric weekend.
