Capitole Ghent
Capitole Ghent is one of the best-known musical theatres in Flanders, located on the Graaf van Vlaanderenplein in the centre of Ghent. The impressive art deco building from 1932 started life as a cinema and evolved over the years into a leading theatre for musicals, large shows, concerts and family performances. The hall seats around two thousand spectators and is characterised by its stately foyer, wide staircases and atmospheric interior that evokes the glamour of the 1930s.
Accessibility is partial because of the historic character of the building. On the ground floor of the hall, wheelchair spaces are available, reachable via a separate entrance. A lift connects the main floors, but not all balconies are wheelchair accessible. Adapted toilets are available to a limited extent. It is strongly recommended to contact the ticket service in advance to discuss your visit and reserve a suitable spot. Staff will guide wheelchair users from the entrance to their seat.
Parking is possible in nearby underground car parks such as Vrijdagmarkt or Kouter, both with disabled parking spaces. The Capitole is well served by tram and bus, with stops a few minutes' walk away. The surroundings are largely paved, although there are some cobblestone sections in the city centre that can be avoided via adapted routes.
