About this location
Citadel Park is Ghent's best-known city park, situated close to Sint-Pieters railway station. The park was laid out on the site of a former citadel and offers a mix of green spaces, ponds and cultural venues.
Accessibility
The main paths are paved and easily accessible. Please note: some paths have slopes due to the terrain. The entrance on the Museum of Fine Arts side is the flattest approach.
Nearby
- Museum of Fine Arts (MSK): Fully accessible with lift.
- S.M.A.K. (Museum of Contemporary Art): Accessible with lift.
- Vooruit/Viernulvier: Cultural centre, partially accessible.
Getting there
- Train: Sint-Pieters station is a 5-minute walk (flat route via Kunstlaan).
- Parking: Kunstlaan car park with accessible spaces.
Good to know
- Reservation
- No booking required — the park is freely accessible public space, open day and night.
- Busy and quiet times
- Sunny weekend days and events (festivals, museum activities) draw crowds. A weekday morning is quiet and pleasant.
- Things to note
- Some paths have slopes due to the rolling terrain of the former citadel. There are no adapted toilets in the park itself — use those in the MSK or S.M.A.K.
- Visit tip
- Enter on the Museum of Fine Arts side — that approach is the flattest. Combine with a visit to MSK or S.M.A.K., both fully accessible by lift.
