De Vetweide Nature Reserve Lommel
De Vetweide is an open nature area on the edge of Lommel, characterised by large grasslands, small woodlands and species-rich meadows. The area is managed extensively and is a popular spot for walkers, joggers and local residents looking for tranquillity just outside the built-up zone. Thanks to grazing-based management, a varied fauna lives here, including butterflies, meadow birds and hares. De Vetweide connects to the wider green network in Bosland.
The main paths are wide and semi-paved, with a flat surface that is well navigable for wheelchair users in dry conditions. Several circular walks of one to three kilometres start from the car park. Picnic benches and rest points are positioned at clear locations. Accessible toilets are not on site, but they are available in the nearby sports centre and in the centre of Lommel. In wet weather, some side paths may temporarily be less suitable.
Accessible parking spaces are located at the entrance to the nature reserve. De Vetweide is easily reached by car and is a ten-minute drive from the centre of Lommel. Combining it with a visit to the Lommel Glass Museum or a wheelchair-friendly walk in Bosland Kattenbos makes for a varied day trip in northern Limburg.
