Domaine de Weris
Weris is known for one of the most important megalithic sites in Belgium. Spread across the rolling landscape around the village stand two dolmens and numerous menhirs from the Neolithic period. The Musee des Megalithes in the heart of Weris tells the story of these remarkable monuments and places them in the broader context of the prehistoric occupation of the Ardennes.
The museum has been renovated with attention to accessibility: the entrance is at ground level, the exhibition spaces are wheelchair accessible, and there is an adapted toilet. From the museum, a laid-out path leads to the first dolmen a few hundred metres away; this path is semi-paved and flat and can be followed easily with a wheelchair or rolling walker. The other monuments in the landscape are scattered across the meadows and are only reachable via grass and dirt paths.
The car park at the museum is free and has PMR spaces. Weris is a beautifully preserved village of houses in light sandstone with green shutters, and along with Durbuy is a popular tourist centre in the northern Ardennes.
