Liedekerke village centre
The centre of Liedekerke is a typical Pajottenland village ensemble with the Sint-Niklaas Church as its focal point, the renovated town hall, the cultural centre Warande and a landscaped municipal park that connects to the Liedekerke woods. The village sits right next to the Brussels-Ghent railway line, making it an accessible base for exploring the Pajottenland without a car.
Accessibility has improved considerably in recent years. The Dorpsstraat and the small squares around the church are paved with smooth pavers and free of obstructive thresholds. The Warande cultural centre has a barrier-free main entrance, a lift, adapted toilets and wheelchair places in the auditorium. The municipal park has wide paved walking paths, a pond and benches at regular intervals. From the park, an adapted nature-education trail connects to the edge of the Liedekerke woods.
Liedekerke station offers assistance on request through SNCB and is five minutes' roll from the centre. Disabled parking spaces are on Kerkstraat and the Gemeenteplein. Combine with an outing to Halle or Asse, or with an adapted tour through the Pajottenland past the Castle of Gaasbeek and the Castle of Beersel. Liedekerke makes a quiet half-day stop.
