Cycling Through the Heath Hechtel-Eksel
Cycling Through the Heath is the third cycling experience in the well-known Limburg series. The cycle path winds partly on the ground and partly on a gentle elevation through the purple heathlands of Bosland in Hechtel-Eksel. In August and early September, when the heather is in full bloom, the colours are at their most beautiful. The path is part of the cycle node route and connects with the other experiences in the same area.
The cycle path is fully paved and even, with no steps or thresholds. At three metres wide, it easily allows a handbike, duo cycle or tandem to pass each other. The slopes are gentle and the paved top layer is also suitable for wheelchair users being towed by a front-wheel attachment. A number of rest spots with benches and information panels are placed along the path.
Parking is available at the adjacent Bosland car park or at the Pijnven welcome pavilion. Both car parks are paved and have reserved spaces, as well as adapted sanitary facilities in the welcome building. From the car park to the start of the cycle path, a threshold-free route of a few hundred metres is provided. A visit to the heath path combines easily with Cycling Through the Trees and Cycling Through the Water on the same day.
