Fort Lillo is a unique polder village on the Scheldt, enclosed by the old fortifications of the seventeenth-century fort. It lies in the middle of the port territory of Antwerp and is one of the few inhabited polder villages preserved after the harbour expansion of the 1960s. The village core, the old polder gate and the Polder Museum together tell the story of the struggle between people, water and harbour. The village exudes an exceptional atmosphere: in the shadow of the container terminals lives a community of around two hundred residents.

The accessibility of the village is good. The streets within the ramparts are level and largely paved with clinker or asphalt. The polder dyke around the fort, which you can ride or walk on, offers views of the Scheldt and the harbour and is a paved cycle route easy to follow with a wheelchair. The Polder Museum has a threshold at the entrance that can be negotiated with assistance. In the village you will find a few cafes and small restaurants, some with a terrace at street level.

The car park is right at the entrance to the village and has accessible spaces. A partially accessible toilet is available in one of the hospitality venues. Lillo is reached via the Scheldelaan and is a peaceful outing after a visit to Fort Liefkenshoek on the opposite bank of the Scheldt, accessible via the Liefkenshoek tunnel.
