Gallo-Roman Museum
The Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren takes visitors on a fascinating journey through Belgium's oldest history. Tongeren, founded as Atuatuca Tungrorum, is the oldest town in the country and was an important centre in the Roman province of Gallia Belgica. The museum presents the region's rich archaeological finds in a modern, interactive way, from prehistoric tools to stunning Gallo-Roman grave goods and jewellery.
The museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users. All exhibition halls can be reached by lift, and the wide corridors provide ample room to manoeuvre. Adapted toilets are available on multiple floors. The exhibition design ensures that display cases and information panels can be easily viewed and read from a seated position. A wheelchair can be borrowed at the reception desk.
The museum is located in the centre of Tongeren, within easy reach of the Grote Markt and the imposing Basilica of Our Lady. PMR parking spaces are available near the museum. On Sundays, Tongeren hosts its famous antiques market, making it easy to combine a museum visit with a stroll through the market. The museum is closed on Mondays.
