Grand-Place Soignies
The Grand-Place of Soignies is the beating heart of this Hainaut town and is dominated by the imposing Saint-Vincent Collegiate Church, one of the finest Romanesque churches in Belgium. Around the square you will find a mix of 17th- and 18th-century townhouses, the town hall and a handful of cosy terraces that, in summer, turn the square into a pleasant meeting place.
The square itself has a mixture of surfaces: the central section is laid with historic cobbles, while along the edges recently paved strips have been added that are smoother for those with reduced mobility. The Saint-Vincent Collegiate Church has a main entrance with a few steps; a side entrance on the north side gives access to the nave via a gentle ramp. Inside, the central aisle is level. Adapted toilets are available in the Tourism Office on the square.
Parking with a blue badge is possible in the adjacent streets and on the central Place du Marche. Soignies station is ten minutes' roll away and offers assistance on request through SNCB. A visit combines nicely with a terrace break on the square, a quiet tour through the old town districts, or an outing to the nearby Saint-Vincent Park, which has paved walking paths.
