Historium Bruges
Historium Bruges is an interactive experience museum on the Market Square of Bruges. The attraction takes visitors on an immersive journey to medieval Bruges in the time of Jan Van Eyck. Through a course with sounds, scents and animated sets, you experience the golden age of the city. A virtual reality experience is also available showing Bruges as it was in 1435, and the panoramic terrace offers a breathtaking view over the Market Square.
Wheelchair accessibility has been thoughtfully implemented. An alternative entrance with a lift is available and wheelchair users receive a customised route through the museum with personal assistance. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are present and a wheelchair can be borrowed free of charge at the ticket office. Companions of visitors with disabilities receive free admission to the museum.
The Historium is located in the heart of Bruges and is easily accessible by public transport. It does not have its own car park, but parking garages with disabled parking spaces are available nearby. The Duvelorium, the free-entry cafe, offers a pleasant resting point after your visit. A visit to the Historium combines perfectly with a walk through the UNESCO World Heritage city centre of Bruges.
Good to know
- Reservation
- Tickets can be bought at the desk or booked online; booking online lets you pick a time slot which greatly limits waiting at peak times. On arrival, mention that you need an adapted route and personal assistance — this service is provided free of charge.
- Busy and quiet times
- Cruise ship days (spring and autumn) and summer weekends create crowds on the Grote Markt (Main Square) and at the entrance. Weekdays in September-October or January-February are noticeably quieter for a relaxed visit.
- Things to note
- The virtual reality experience requires you to put on a VR headset; check at the desk whether this works for you. The panoramic roof terrace is reached by lift but the rooftop lookout itself has narrower passages — at peak occupancy it can feel tight with a large wheelchair.
- Visit tip
- Companions of visitors with a disability receive free admission. Combine your visit with a terrace on the Grote Markt (Main Square) or a break at the Duvelorium (free entry, no ticket needed). Allow one and a half to two hours for the full route.
