Yper Museum
The Yper Museum is the city museum of Ypres, housed in the imposing Cloth Hall on the Grote Markt. Opened in 2018, the museum tells the story of the city and the Westhoek region from the Middle Ages to the present day. The multimedia exhibition covers important themes such as the cloth industry, the Siege of Ypres, the plague and social welfare. The museum also highlights the work of three female artists: the lacework of Clara Francisca van Zuytpeene Lamotte, the paintings of Louise De Hem and the photography of Leontine Permeke.
The Yper Museum is fully wheelchair accessible. The museum has lifts serving all floors and the exhibition spaces are spacious and step-free. The entrance on the Grote Markt is at ground level. Adapted restrooms are available in the museum. Accessible parking spaces can be found on the Grote Markt and in nearby streets.
The museum is centrally located on Ypres' Grote Markt and shares the building with the In Flanders Fields Museum. By car, Ypres is reachable via the A19 motorway. By train, visitors can travel to Ypres station, which is within walking distance of the Grote Markt. A visit combines well with the In Flanders Fields Museum, the Menin Gate or the many war cemeteries in the Westhoek.
