The Land Commandery of Alden Biesen in Rijkhoven (Bilzen) was for centuries the headquarters of the Teutonic Order in the Low Countries. The impressive complex, with a castle, chapel, gardens, farms, and an extensive park, dates in its current form largely from the 17th and 18th centuries. Today Alden Biesen is a cultural centre of the Flemish government, with exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and seasonal events.

Accessibility is generally excellent. After the recent refurbishment, the main rooms of the castle are reachable via ramps and lifts. The large inner courtyard and the commander's garden are completely level and paved. The French garden and the English park are easily navigable via wide avenues and semi-paved paths. The baroque chapel has an accessible side entrance and space for wheelchair users.

Adapted toilets are provided in the reception building, the restaurant, and at several places in the castle. There is a large car park with several disabled parking spaces close to the main entrance. Alden Biesen is a rewarding destination all year round for a wheelchair-friendly day trip in Limburg, and can be combined with a visit to nearby Tongeren, the oldest city in Belgium.
