Louvain-la-Neuve Town Centre
Louvain-la-Neuve is a unique car-free university town, built in the 1970s for UCLouvain. The town centre is a pedestrian zone with shops, restaurants, cultural institutions and the Musée L. The architecture is eclectic and the vibrant student life gives the town a distinctive atmosphere.
The town is largely designed at one level on an elevated platform, with car traffic running underneath. The pedestrian zones are wide and paved, ideal for wheelchair users. The main buildings such as the Musée L, Aula Magna and the L'Esplanade shopping centre are fully accessible. Adapted toilets are available in public buildings and the shopping centre.
Underground car parks with accessible spaces can be reached via lifts to the pedestrian level. The Louvain-la-Neuve-Université station is wheelchair accessible. The town combines well with a visit to the Musée Hergé, which is within walking distance.
