Marche Medievale Soignies
The medieval market square of Soignies forms the beating heart of this Hainaut town. Around the square stand old townhouses and the impressive Saint-Vincent collegiate church, one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Belgium. The ensemble tells centuries of local history, and during annual markets and the medieval festival the atmosphere of the old town comes back to life.
Accessibility of the site is partial. The central square is largely flat and paved, with some cobblestones that may cause discomfort for finely tuned wheelchairs. The sides and pavements around the square are generally paved and easy to navigate. The collegiate church is reached through the main entrance with a slight threshold; in the side aisles there are a few steps to older sections.
Accessible toilets are available at the municipal tourism office on the square. A paying car park with disabled parking spaces lies a short distance away. Soignies is easily reached by train, and the station is just a few minutes wheelchair distance from the centre via a barrier-free route.
