Museum of Folk Culture Schoten
The Museum of Folk Culture in Schoten is a small and charming museum that documents the local history, folk traditions and daily life of this municipality north of Antwerp. The museum is housed in a restored village building on the edge of the historic centre and displays a rich collection of craft tools, traditional clothing, religious objects and old photographs. Temporary exhibitions shine a light on different aspects of Schoten's folk culture in turn.
The ground-floor exhibition space is entirely step-free thanks to a recent renovation. The main entrance has been fitted with a built-in ramp, and the interior rooms are flat with wide passages between the display cases. An adapted toilet with grab bars and ample turning space is available on the ground floor. The limited upper floor with the documentation centre is reachable via a narrow staircase, but the main museum collection remains on the ground floor.
The car park next to the museum is paved and offers a few reserved spaces. Bus line 410 from Antwerp stops within walking distance. The area around Schoten is flat with wide pavements. Combine your visit with a walk through the accessible Kasteelpark Schoten, where flat paved paths lead past the old oaks, the rose garden and the ponds.
